Intel would be detailing next generation Itanium processor having a code named Poulson at ISSCC (International Solid State Circuits Conference) in 2nd month of next year, reported X-bit Labs. This powerfull processor shall hit market in 2012. Further detailing shall be done by Intel in the conference but the site is pretty much informative about Poulson’s architecture.

Itanium processor will double the amount of IA64 cores along with the cache memory. the compatibility with Itanium 9300-series shall be mainteined as well. 3.1 billion transistors shall be there in Itanium 32 nm eight core processor. The dimensions of the processor are 18.2 x 29.9 nm and the size of die is 545.8 millimeter square. As we know the size now, surely a floor plan would have made by the company. This processor will be having eight multi-threaded cores, a ring based system interface along with a cache memory of 50 MB. High speed links allow bandwidth transfer of up to 128GB/s and memory bandwidth of up to 45 GB/s.
